Waking early (as it turned out, much earlier than required), we joined a small boat to take us back to the West Bank for a hot air balloon trip to view the region from above. This time we stayed within the flight regulation height and we had a great view over the Valley of the Kings and Valley of the Queens. It was a good end to our journey up the Nile.
We took a flight to Cairo with a slight delay caused by passenger who refused to sit in his allotted seat. After the purser tried unsuccessfully, a security guard came on board and the man quickly made a move to the proper seat!
We headed from the airport to the Cairo Museum which has so much material in it that one could probably spend weeks there. Each piece is labelled by a sheet of paper probably typed in the 50's on an old ribbon typewriter. Unfortunately, the information is unhelpful - it does not tell where the item came from or its age or any background information. Usually, it will state something obvious such as, "Wooden box with a lid".
Arriving at our accommodation, we decided that the title of "hotel" was a bit ambitious. The floors were filthy, the toilet continually leaked over the bathroom floor, the shower had two settings - boiling hot or freezing cold, the beds were "U" shaped, the door to our room did not lock properly and it was hard to open or close..... We had reached the bottom of accommodation levels (or so we thought.......).
